Hello friends,
Starting next week, I’m taking the Roundup to LinkedIn Live. Every Monday I’ll walk through the week’s news live from my personal profile, and the newsletter will keep landing in your inbox as always. If you’re on LinkedIn, follow me there so you catch the first one.
I’m also still collecting answers to my Provider Needs survey. I want to know what professional services would actually make your work easier: trainings, consults, toolkits, or something I haven’t thought of yet. Your answers decide what the paid Professional tier becomes.
WPATH is coming up fast. I’ve been combing through the program, and I’m excited by the range of panels and presenters, from Indigenous and decolonial approaches to care to ethics sessions on practicing under political fire. Now I’m strategizing: which sessions to prioritize, which presenters to approach for interviews, and how to turn a few days in Mexico City into a year of reporting for you. If you’d like to help get me there, the fundraiser is still open.

United States
The four New Hampshire families suing to protect their kids’ care are now racing the Medicaid ban on gender-affirming care for trans youth, which takes effect this week. Two Democrat-led states didn’t wait for the deadline: Arizona and Virginia quietly ended Medicaid coverage of care for trans youth, bowing to Trump’s demands. Days later, Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger accused the administration of using trans kids as political pawns and said she’s exploring “every option” to protect them. New York City is moving the other way, with its health department planning to steer $8.9 million to nonprofits providing care to patients under 18 as major hospital systems shut down their youth programs.
A Tennessee court overturned the conviction of a man who killed a Black trans woman, ruling that the lower court erred by barring him from using her trans identity in his defense. A federal appeals court confirmed that trans people born in Arizona can update birth certificates without surgery by court order. The Alliance Defending Freedom filed a shadow-docket request asking the Supreme Court to recognize a “parental right” under Title IX to keep trans kids from competing against cis kids.
Colorado’s top medical groups formally oppose Prop. 135, the anti-trans measure on next month’s ballot, a blanket restriction no major medical group in the country endorses. In Missouri, Republicans are trying to restore the abortion ban by packaging it inside an anti-trans ballot initiative. Ohio Republicans’ Family Sovereignty Act would limit who can allege that a child appears abused or neglected, raising again the question of which families the state will protect. Worcester State University canceled the TORCH conference, a gathering of anti-trans activists.
A trans woman the Trump administration deported to the Central African Republic says she’s been housed with men and hiding her gender identity to survive. Human Rights Watch found the U.S. has sent at least a dozen LGBT people to African countries that criminalize same-sex relations, including refugees the U.S. had granted protection.
International
In the UK, QueerAF reports that 618 people have died while under the care of an NHS gender clinic, at least 21 by suicide. Shado lays out how new anti-trans legislation reaches every NHS user, not only trans patients.
The International Criminal Court unsealed arrest warrants for Taliban officials accused of persecuting LGBTQ people and women.
In South Africa, researchers found STIs in 15% of gay, bi, and other men who have sex with men who had no symptoms, and experts are calling for better testing and sexual healthcare.

Plan before October 22 — The Canadian International Pharmacy Association warns that new U.S. customs entry rules taking effect October 22 are expected to stop nearly all mailed prescription orders from Canadian and international pharmacies, so patients importing hormones or other medications need a backup supply route now.
